Playgrounds and Other Areas Closed

Please note that the City of Seattle and King County have now closed all playgrounds, as well as other areas of parks where it would be difficult to maintain social distancing.

It is particularly important to follow this restriction on playgrounds, where the COVID-19 virus can live on surfaces for several days. If you or your child becomes infected, they are likely to infect others unknowingly, even when they don’t have symptoms. We know this is difficult, but PLEASE stay off the playgrounds. Instead, consider taking a hike, flying a kite or bicycling instead.

Nutrition Services: Paid and Volunteer Opportunities

Hello BT community! I hope this post finds you well, physically and mentally. It’s a challenging time for all of us, in many different ways. Please see below for both employment and volunteer opportunities with the district-wide school lunch program.
At this time our nutrition staff is able to handle demand for the grab & go lunches being provided throughout the district. However, we expect this to change in the coming weeks as the need grows – more families lose income, home pantries shrink. The district is in the process of creating an online volunteer entry system to ensure we can update community members who are expressing interest in helping. They system is not yet ready, but you can check this website regularly for updates. Also, on that page, you’ll see a link to a volunteer application. If you intend to volunteer, you can get the process started by going through the application process.
At the same time, the nutrition team is recruiting for paid lunchroom substitute positions. You can learn more and apply here.

Gift Cards

Hello community. Our amazing office admin, Lauri, has offered to collect and distribute gift cards to our families who need them. If you are willing and able to donate, cards can be purchased many places for Safeway, Fred Meyer, or Target, which are the preferred stores, in that order. Below are a few links to get you started. If you would like to send an electronic gift card, send to Lauri McVicar. If you want to deliver a physical gift card, please contact Lauri for instructions.
If you are in need of a gift card, Lauri plans to be at the student lunch distribution this week (M-F, 11a-1p) at Broadview-Thomson. If you are unable to come during that time, please email Lauri to make other arrangements.
Thank you everyone!

A Note from the BT PK-8 PTA Board

To our School Community,

To say we are in unknown and rare times is an understatement. As a PTA board we wanted to reach out and let our community know that we have been meeting and working on how we can be a resource for our Broadview-Thomson PK-8 families during this closure to reduce the spread of Covid-19. We first want to say thank you to our teachers, staff, and administration for handling this with great care, concern to take care of each of our students.

As we are actively working to share resources for our families that can support what the district might be able to provide, we hope you’ll engage with us. Please follow our Facebook page, as well as keep on the lookout for updates from the school/district/classroom teachers. Situations such as these bring into sharp focus that there is a great lack of equity when it comes to resources and access of such resources.

How You Can Help: Support Our Food Banks

More information will be forthcoming about emergency food services. However, if you are wanting to support and help out while we wait, our local food banks (the Ballard Food Bank and the Bitterlake Food Bank) are in need as they are facing challenges with respect to volunteers and supplies. Ballard Food Bank has ways to help on their web page and what they need to keep moving forward.

Let’s Stay Connected to Help Each Other

Our goal as a PTA is to coordinate with our school and the district to support where we can and be an additional resource and information hub. We hope to be in touch as we move into the next week, and again, please follow our Facebook page as well as be part of our email community. We will also be sharing more via our PTA website,

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas please feel free to email us at or

More soon and take care,

Your BTPK8 PTA Board
