Annual Art Walk

Slalish Art Salish Art Walk 2

The annual Broadview Thomson Art Walk is coming up on Thursday, April 2nd from 6-8 pm. Pizza Dinner served at 5:30 PM.

Hello, Families!

This year’s arts focus is local Pacific Northwest tribal art. We will showcase students’ work at our Coast Salish Arts Ceremony, April 2. Pizza dinner will be served at 5:30 pm. The program begins in the gym “longhouse” at 6:00.

The Ceremony will look like a potlatch. A potlatch is a very important feast where hosts give away fancy gifts to show their wealth and thanks to others. This is called “gifting” someone. Not all Coast Salish people participate in potlatches.

The whole school has been busily creating gifts for the Ceremony. Many students will “gift” (give away) some of their artwork to our guests.

  • You can expect gifts of bookmarks, cedar dolls, or bracelets made from cedar and dried nettles.
  • You will have a chance to sample nettle soup and nettle tea, too.
  • You will see two plays based on traditional Coast Salish myths performed by our seventh and eighth graders.
  • You will learn a traditional Coast Salish dance, play games, sing, and more!

Book Drive @ BTK-8 On NOW!

It is time for Broadview-Thomson’s annual book drive!

Every year, books in the school library and in your child’s classroom get loved to death. They get damaged or lost, and we have to replace them to maintain and even improve the quality of our students’ reading experiences. Also, great new books are released every year that we would love to get. Unfortunately, there are very few dollars that are budgeted for this.
That’s where you come in! Every year, we identify books that both the school library and individual classrooms need, and make them available for easy purchase on Since March is Reading Month, our book drive is running fromMarch 10th through April 7th.
